Basketball training from scratch with participation of eleven (individual methods for practicing attacking and defensive techniques)

The essence of one-on-one personal offensive and defensive skills lies in face-to-face offensive and defensive confrontation, so confrontation exercises are main means of teaching one-on-one personal offensive and defensive skills. When teaching and training individual attacking and defensive skills, offense and defense should be combined, and offense should also be practiced while practicing defense. At initial stage, complexity of exercise can be adjusted by reducing intensity of confrontation. Each opposing exercise has a focus, some exercises are mainly offensive, some are mainly defensive, and main points of personal offensive and defensive skills are strengthened according to requirements of practice.

(1) Practicing breakthrough step and step skills

One ball per person standing 4-5 meters from wall. Practice begins by passing ball off wall as ball bounces back, actively catch ball and make an emergency stop, and then perform a forward break technique or a cross step. Repeat as many times as required.

Requirements: catching and stopping movement must be confident, powerful and consistent, breakout movement is large, center of gravity is low, communication is good.

(2) Individual training in offense and defense with bare hands (head coach defense)

In teams of two, one person attacks and other defends. The attacker moves at appropriate speed to change pace of entire court, and defender always chooses a position between opponent and basket and makes appropriate adjustments in accordance with change in movement of opponent.

Requirements: At beginning of practice, speed of attacker must be appropriate, and movements and changes must be relatively regular. As practice develops, speed and change should be gradually increased to create training conditions for defender. The defender must actively defend, assess changes in movement of opponent, actively move and select an advantageous position for protection.
