Importance of first contact
The position of a midfielder is destined for their importance to team. If a midfielder catches ball and quickly loses ball, tragedy can soon follow, so first touch can be handled well. This is a necessary basic skill for a midfielder, especially a midfielder. If you do not have this skill , it will be a disaster.
Figure 1. Broken example
If we just look at Pirlo's athleticism, he looks like a slow, unremarkable player, but when he comes into play you will find that it is completely wrong, he can always use his With first touch of ball, he leaves opponent behind and makes opponent look slow and confused.
Figure 2. Pirlo example 1
Figure 3. Pirlo example 2
Figure 4. Pirlo example 3
Because he has a great sense of position and observation, he can always hit ball in opposite direction as soon as someone blocks it. Below we will first compare two scenarios and then talk about how to catch ball.
Compare two scenarios
Scene 1. The receiver doesn't look back and defender steps up to intercept ball.
Figure 5. Lack of observation steals
Scene 2: After catching ball, he looked back and saw a defender approaching, immediately took action and successfully defended the ball.
Drawing 6. Protecting ball after observation
So we see that awareness is very important. If you look back before you get ball, defender won't steal ball so easily. Let's look at a few other ways to handle ball.
Teaching method
The first catch skill is a very simple and effective turning skill, we often see it in play, using side inside of foot to catch ball in front of you and then touching ball with other foot to complete turn. But we have to watch before catching ball and practice 20 reps left and right.
Drawing 7. Catch ball sideways and turn around
In next exercise, we imagine that someone is approaching from one side and we are walking straight in other direction.
Drawing 8 - catch ball in other direction
The next step is to use outside instep of foot to catch ball and turn around. Also, before catching ball, look back, observe and practice on both sides.
Figure 9-foot side turn
Next is toe ball turn, which is very effective in a real fight. Watch direction defender is coming from, then turn around and pull ball at a certain angle in direction defender is facing. comes to complete escape. Practice on both sides.
Drawing 10. Pull ball and turn around
The following catching skills are skills that midfielders must master. We look forward to ball and sort of stop ball in front of us, creating an illusion for defender and making him jump in wrong place. We then let ball pass through body and turn away.
Drawing 11. Let ball turn
Cruyff then turns to receive ball, apparently with one side of his body, and dribbles ball behind his pivot foot to other side of his body with his touching foot.
Drawing 12. Cruyff turned around
The next move is a bit like freestyle, tricking defenders into thinking we're going to left, but we're actually going to break through to right. This technique is very effective in frontcourt.
Drawing 13. Fake turn to catch ball
The last exercise can be used for fun. Grab ball with your toes and then use outside of your foot to overhand ball to get rid of defender.
Picture 14 - Too many to provoke people
Not only midfielders, but also defenders and forwards can learn these skills to catch ball. Observation is very important for everyone. Only by knowing yourself and your opponent can you win every fight.
In addition to carefully observing before catching ball, we also need to emphasize one point during training. When training against wall, many small partners immediately turn back when ball is passed. This type of training is of limited practical value. We have to wait for ball to return During game, start to look around and observe, and then catch ball. This will greatly improve our ability to catch ball in a real fight after you have mastered it.
Finally, these workouts are most basic workouts for passing and catching ball. There are no restrictions on number of sets and time, and they should be practiced every day if conditions permit.
